About the Founding Attorney

Kevin Battersby Witenoff is a former prosecutor with experience handling complex and high severity felony cases.

As a Wayne County prosecutor, Kevin led nearly one thousand adult and juvenile felony cases, including high-stakes charges such as homicide, carjacking, robbery, and counterfeiting. This background gives him a unique advantage in defense work: he knows how prosecutors build cases, where weaknesses can be found, and how to negotiate effectively on behalf of his clients.

Before his time at the Prosecutor’s Office, Kevin dedicated his studies and early work to issues of fair treatment in the court system, social policy, and juvenile justice. Today, he brings that passion into practice, with a mission to secure the best possible outcomes for every client he represents.

From traffic infractions to life offenses, Kevin has successfully navigated nearly every type of criminal matter. His deep courtroom experience, diligence, and strong professional relationships enable him to fight for dismissals, diversion programs, favorable plea agreements, or trial victories — whichever path is in his client’s best interest.

Education
  • Kevin graduated a semester early from James Madison College at Michigan State University. While there, he studied sociology and public policy – focusing on race, poverty, and the criminal justice system.
  • Kevin then attended Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville, TN – one of the twenty best law schools in the country. As a law student, Kevin was a Dean’s Scholar, a teacher’s assistant, a research assistant, and the American Constitution Society president.

  • Passed the Michigan Bar Exam on first attempt
  • Assigned the largest criminal docket of any prosecutor in Michigan at the time (383 cases)

  • Stolen vehicle recovered with a shattered window – won on Receiving and Concealing a Stolen Motor Vehicle charge at trial

  • Strangulation of a female coworker – won on Aggravated Assault charge at trial
